Now is the Time to Move from Chaos to Order, Purpose, Peace

"For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken," Says the LORD who has compassion on you." Isaiah 54:10

"Mama, lift the curtain so we can see the mountains," one of my little ones said as we crept towards the airport one snowy morning.

This little one knew what was real and what he could not see,  because the mountains graced our little home every day. He was sure of what his eyes had seen and his feet had walked. But this day, the snow, steam and fogged covered over so that our eyes could not see behind the curtain of mist.

The beginning and ending of Owning Your Life is recognizing the God who created us, loves us, knows us, created us for purpose and intimacy with Him. The God who longs for us to understand His purposes and blessings for us so that our lives might be rich and fulfilling.

Each of us is born with a spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical capacity to live vibrantly into vast potential for accomplishing great feats, (it is a glory to God when we are excellent in skill, wisdom and life), to love deeply and generously, (to experience deep intimacy, friendship, companionship), to know and understand great intellectual and wise knowledge, (God commanded us to worship Him--to serve Him with our minds).

He created us to know and experience so much because He is great, infinite, transcendent, and dazzling.

The world has veiled the glory of God, and sin has robbed us from understanding how marvelous He created our lives to be.

And yet, "The people in darkness have seen a great light,"and Jesus came to lift the veil and to show us His dynamic reality.

My challenge to you this year, in 2015, is to live into God's ways as deeply as you are able to look with the eyes of your heart to see His presence, His fingertips of His reality in all the moments of your day. Believe Him and serve Him with all of your being. Engage your heart to believe in prayer. Extend generous words of love, encouragement to those who walk in darkness.

This is your year to Own Your Life and to live with deep intention, bold faith, generous love.

My heartfelt gratefulness to the most amazing launch team who friended me and helped me to begin to get these messages out to many arenas. I am deeply humbled and grateful. My thankfulness to so many friends who have written, prayed, loved, and helped.

My prayer is that this year, we shall see His light shining through His children more brightly than ever before because we have come more clearly to see Him as He is and to reflect His glory.

May God bless each of you in 2015 as you Own Your Life for His glory--and respond to all that He has graciously provided. I pray you will be comforted, inspired, transformed, encouraged, tickled with happiness, and that His gentle touch and smile of affection will be over each day.

Thanks for this week. I will return to normal at my blog soon--I may need a nap or two first! :)

Own Your Relationships: Marriage, Parenting, Friendships and a Giveaway!

10921718_10205517344598135_807729278_n

Special note: Giveaway winners from earlier this week are listed at the bottom of this post!

Home is the primary holding place for all that is valuable and it is the sanctuary for building loving relationships.

"They will know you are my disciples by your love for one another."

Relationships, to a great degree, determine the fruitfulness of your whole life. Jesus defined the ultimate reflection of our presence in the world as how well we loved one another. Christian love requires a choice, an obedience, a heart to serve.

"Greater love has no one than this, that lay down his life for his friend."

Jesus, the ultimate symbol of sacrificial love, models to us what love looks like with real people and then He calls us to the same love for those in our own world.

Marriage: a picture of our sacred relationship with God. He is forever our bridegroom living to serve us and we are to be his loyal, loving, responsive bride. When we cultivate and develop mature relationship in our marriage, we reflect His love to the world.

10887802_10205517344558134_916907899_n

Mothering and Parenting: As our Father give us purpose, instructs us in wisdom, trains us, provides a stunning creation to inhabit, blesses us with good gifts, protects us, sacrifices for us, so we are to recreate His own model through our lives to bless, train and provide for our children.

Friendship: A place of giving, encouraging, serving, sacrificing as He laid down His life for His friends.

So to Own Your Life, in relationships, infers that we must be responsible, committed, exhibit sacrificial love in our relationships.

God's word is the foundational place where I have learned about my relationships. It starts with a daily investing in our love and knowledge of Him. Then marriage and family become the places we understand Him better as we practice loving as He did. Friendships emerge as we cultivate a heart for ministry from watching and knowing His compassionate love. So love and mature relationships start with loving and knowing God.

I love my giveaways today. First, my wonderful publisher has provided me with some wonderful books to give away. I asked them to come up with a package  of books that would start out the year for one of my subscribers to be set up for quiet times--books that would help cultivate a deeper walk with God.

It includes the Women's Sanctuary Bible, The Life Application Study Bible, Pocket Prayers for Women, and The One- Year Experiencing God's Presence Devotional

Jeanna Young is a very dear friend, who wanted to have a beautiful way to teach her children about what is looks like to have a relationship with God, to understand how to love others, to know how to grow in character. She created a whole line of books and dolls to implement her own training for her four children. So, to emphasize the importance of our parenting and teaching role, I wanted to give something that would be a blessing to moms and their children in teaching these important principles. Jeanna is so generous to share these with us.

Giving Life to Your Priorities

unnamedThe wise woman builds her house.

Proverbs 14:1

Building a house from almost scratch cost us hundreds of hours of planning--the bedrooms to suit our boys who would share, the little one for Joy who was young, then Sarah's special blue colored walls. We  planned a library for all of our books, planned a playground, as well as our grass and garden.

Then, we worked, painted, arranged, planted and watched our beautiful home grow into a place rich in comfort, ministry, fun and a saving place for all that is good. There is a rhythm to life--planning and building. Dreaming and working hard to fulfill dreams.

To own one's life, means to envision what is most important, from God's perspective, what goals are worthy and then making plans to accomplish them and working hard in that direction. Over the years, I have learned to copy wise people and to grow from their input and finally to work out the plans.

That is why I am delighted today, to give away all sorts of life coaching from two wonderful friends who are resources of helping with life planning and priorities for you or you and your husband. Both are consultants who guide and inspire people in every walk of life.

And then my wonderful friend, Kat, has generously offered to give away her course that is so very practical and insightful about helping moms know how to organize their day, to build priorities that suit your family and how to make a rhythm of making time for God. I think these gifts will be wonderful for you.

Owning the Beauty of Your Soul with Beautiful Giveaways!

Choosing Light (1)
"Choosing Light"
16 x 20 Original painting by Katy Rose
Oil on Canvas, prepared for wall-mounting
Recently, amidst a freezing day, slugging through snow, sleet and sand on the freeway, Joy and I dropped by to see a close family friend. She was leaving the next day for college and we wanted to see our friend. As we walked in her home for a very short hug and hello, we heard soft music wafting softly, candles were flickering on her table, 3 cups of her grandmother's china held steaming hot tea, and homemade biscotti with chocolate and nuts graced the plates. We both sighed out the stress of our busy day and enjoyed the best 5 minute cup of tea we have ever had. The beauty of our friend's preparation deeply ministered to our over-busy stressful hearts.
Owning our moments by filling them with beauty is wisdom to a woman who understands the marathon run of life. If we are giving out every day, all the time, we must refuel, refresh, take time to rest and take care of our needs so that we can last well and last strong.
God is an artist at heart and His desire to delight us is evident throughout the created cosmos. He loves to delight us. To celebrate our need for beauty, pleasure, variety, personality, I am delighted to give away some amazing gifts of beauty and beauty making. And I cannot say how very thankful I am for these precious friends who have made their gifts available for you!
First, my sweet friend, who is an artist, is giving away an amazing original painting. She painted this just for us! Absolutely thrilled. Meet Katy.
Katy Rose is a mother of two young boys and believes that a life poured out is a life filled up. She writes and shares at her blog about Goodwill Living. What is that? It's that's  about breaking through the walls of our comfort zones and running free. It's about standing on the firm reality that endless acquiring and amassing does not result in peace, but a life poured out in Jesus' name does. It's about embracing our families as immeasurable gifts, worthy of our best. And seeing our homes as central hubs for ministry, whether it's meeting the needs of our families or strangers. Its about owning our lives so that we can share them with others.

As her boys have entered pre-school age, Katy decided to teach them along side the children of refugees.  In the afternoons while her boys nap, Katy paints. She sells her work in her online shop and the beauty that eventually hangs in the homes of others also pours out a ministry, providing surgeries for Iraqui children through the work of the Preemptive Love Coalition.

Today, I am giving away an original work by Katy! A piece inspired by my new book, here's what Katy has to share about it:

"Sally shares this prayer in the beginning of Own Your Life, a prayer she declared before the Lord over 20 years ago. It is the inspiration for this painting:

"Lord, I will choose to find light in the darkness. I have no guarantee about how any of this will turn out, but I am planting flags of faith. No matter what happens, I will be as obedient as I can to bring joy into this place, to create beauty in the wilderness, to exercise generous love, and the persevere in patience. I will choose to believe that wherever you are my faithful companion is the place where your blessing will be upon me." (p. 9, Own Your Life)

Through the mingling of dark and light, this piece draws on the essence of Redemption, the captivating story of God inviting us out the the darkness and into Light.

As we cling to that Light, we aren't spared from the storms of this world, yet by His grace, we persevere with full confidence in our victorious Redeemer, choosing light."

I hope you win this special work of art to hang in a special area of you home!

******************************************************************

It was a profound realization when I understood that I could become an artist with my very life and paint the reality of God, the creator in all the ways I made my home a reflection of His creativity. The next giveaway is to help you plan how to make your own home even more, a place that gives beauty, design, and a plan to make it your own. I can't eve believe that Logan has volunteered to give an amazing gift to you to celebrate this week's launch. I have been amazed at her skill and artistry since I first saw the amazing way she turned Allume into a dazzling, lovely artistic atmosphere for all of us who attended. Amazing talent and skill were obvious.

1167621_10153163650020297_1650847241_oLogan Wolfram, host of the Allume Conference and writer at Life For Dessert is a talented event planner and interior designer. Her new book about following God to unexpected places with a curious faith and soft heart, releases in the Spring of 2016.  Today she is helping me celebrate the release of Own Your Life by donating a One Hour Phone Consultation about the interior design of a room of their choice with a lucky winner! We want you to love the spaces of your home, to learn how to cultivate beauty and contentment and find creative ways to enjoy where you live! Logan's ideas are inspiring!

Finally, I wanted you to have a bundle of my favorite things--things I keep around every day--for daily pleasures and celebration.(My favorite tea--Yorkshire Gold, a vanilla candle, a mom heart necklace, one of Joel's cd's, a journal, a frame-able art quote from a friend, and a dark salted chocolate almond bar.

Celebrating the "Own Your Life" Book Release and AMAZING Give-Aways!

bg-collage (1) Today is the day! My new book, Own Your Life is officially releasing. I pray it will be inspiring to women all over the world. Since I became a believer in college, discipleship--encouraging others in personal ministry and close relationship, has always been the heart-beat of all the days of my ministry. We started our ministry by faith almost 20 years ago. During that time, we have published 14 books, produced in 10 languages, hosted mom conferences for 36,000 women, blogged for 9 years, ministered internationally, and watched God take our messages literally all over he world! (Speaking in the United States congress, in universities and arenas all over China, meeting with women and training them in over 12 countries, hosting leadership trainings in my home, and so many more opportunities.) God has overabundantly blessed Clay and me and our family through the years and we want to keep giving back to you! Discipleship, motherhood, family and kingdom to honor Christ, is always at the center of all that we do.

A Free Conference Ticket

Almost 20 years ago, when I was overwhelmed with my own four children, I knew there needed to be a special conference just for moms. It would be filled with inspiration to mamas could understand that the discipleship of their children would invest in eternal results and that their call was of supreme importance to God. I also wanted it to be in a lovely hotel, there would be chocolate, a lovely luncheon and lots of grace, not guilt, and fun friendships the whole weekend. Now after serving almost 36,000 women, I see the need more than ever. That is why I want to encourage moms to come and join us. I also want to give away a free conference ticket to any of the three locations. (For more information, go HERE.) If you have already registered and you win, we will refund your money.

Here's what other moms are saying about Mom Heart Conferences and how they have impacted their lives:

"I'm not sure why I'm so surprised each year- its inevitable and hits hard time and time again: that let down feeling after Christmas, when all the beauty of the season is packed away, the twinkling lights back in their bins, every gift opened, long anticipated celebrations have passed. A bit of loneliness always sets in as I look ahead to the dark months of winter still before me; the season of winter without Christmas. I am so thankful that Sally knew this season is universally difficult for moms, that in the darkest months we crave light; crave community and encouragement and laughter. The Mom Heart conferences have become an anchor in my winter season, right in the midst of the time of year when I feel most depleted and unsure of myself, I know I can gather with other mothers, be built up and made ready to return home refreshed and excited to love on my family and create beauty and life giving rhythms in my home. If you are feeling that post- Christmas slump creep in this week, if you feel alone, if you aren't sure how to pursue all you long for in your mothering, I'd love for you to join us this year in Denver, California or Texas! Your heart will be made strong and you will be ready to keep going in your journey as a mom." - Kristen Kill, blogger and editor, New York, NY.

"I love MomHeart Conferences because I know God is faithful to meet me there, no matter what frame of mind I show up in.  He gracefully takes my baggage from me the moment I walk in the doors.  He speaks life giving words into my soul, he fans the flame of the dreams I've been dreaming for my family and he reminds me that he is a God in the business of making the impossible become possible.  Through Sally's example of a faith filled and devoted life, God speaks to the very core of who I am as a mother.  He reminds me I am created to create life and cultivate beauty, to invest with intentional purpose and to call into existence what isn't yet.  I always leave feeling renewed in my purpose to steward my children for the glory of God and his purposes."  -Jennifer Kindle, Texas

"The anticipation of attending a MomHeart Conference can carry my spirit a long way.  Just knowing that I will be gathering with other women who are busy, exhausted, overwhelmed yet totally in love with their calling of being a mom and discipler to their children spurs me on in the trenches of everyday life. Once the conference begins, it's like God brings a little Heavenly oasis to earth and for those two days, my soul is filled with nuggets to take back to my home, family, and ministry.  I truly feel like an ambassador who has been given the charge of taking the wisdom and encouragement from Sally's messages back into a world that has lost its way; implementing her wisdom into my family, sharing her encouragement with my friends, and taking her words to moms who are alone.  That is my mission for attending MomHeart conferences."  -Renee Parris, North Carolina, hearmyheartbeat.org
"Sally Clarkson taught me that my children are my ministry. You wouldn't think I needed a reminder but each year at the mom heart conference, I am grateful she reminds me! I need to go so she can fill my cup to overflowing so I can pass that on to others." Tami Cooke, Richardson, TX
I attended my first conference in 2000 in Dallas . I was pregnant with my fourth child and quite overwhelmed by life."Having been raised in a broken home I lacked the tools to parent well. Furthermore I was a spiritual babe but longing for more for my family. It was that first conference that convinced me whatever the Clarkson family was doing worked! As their children participated in various parts of the conference I saw fruit in their lives. As Sarah, who was 16 then, shared, I knew I wanted the same for my oldest daughter who was then 8. Every year since I have attended a conference. As I embraced the ideals presented of living a life of faith I began to see fruit in our own lives. Fourteen years later I still need the encouragement and inspiration that comes from gathering with like minded moms and hearing inspiring talks on living a life of faith. I hope you will consider coming as an investment in your family!" - Pam Graves, mother of 5

Woo Hoo! Yippee! Yay!

I am so excited that I get to share my newest book with you this week. To celebrate, I will host giveaways, an exciting and inspiring webcast and a surprise grand prize that will be a fabulous gift to two of you.

Can't wait till tomorrow when it officially launches.

Many years ago, our 4 little ones had been cuddling together on a snowy night near the fireplace as we read Treasures of the Snow, a wonderful story of Patricia St. John. At the end of the chapter, my little boy looked up and asked, "Mama, do you have to practice being brave when no one sees to be brave when someone needs a hero? Cause someday, I want to be a hero and want to know what to do to become a hero in my own life."

I believe that within the heart, mind and soul of every single person born, it the stamp of the divine, the imprint that gives each of us the opportunity to become great, loving, strong, civilized, heroic within our own story. But so many never tap into their God-given assets. And life can seem lonely, meaningless and stressful when we get lost on our personal journeys.

I wrote my new book, Own Your Life, to remember with other women, what God created their lives to become. I want to encourage and inspire other sweet friends to know that God is waiting to bless their lives as you learn to walk your days and write a story that He created you to live.

When someone knows our heavenly Father, the one who is eternally good, always with us, wise in every way, compassionate, redeeming, forgiving, then their lives will be forever changed and always a reflection of His life and light.

If you know God, your life will display strength and the Holy Spirit will compel you to take action in your world--it is a natural result, a spontaneous consequence of His life living through us. We are made to become heroes of faith in the stories that will be told through out eternity. But we need to have vision and insight about how this works itself out in real, day to day life.

If God would have compassion on the world, then His spirit would have compassion on the world through us. If God would forgive, love, create, civilize, discipline, bring beauty, instruct, inspire--then His Spirit living through us would naturally produce the same. There is no passivity or ambivalence in the life of a believer who is engaged in a spiritual relationship with God.

My children, as adults, have come to know me, my personality, my support and love, my convictions, my goodness, my provision for their lives for through our many years of doing life together. Now, through the process of our knowing and living with each other , has made them appreciate me more because they have lived with me for so long. And similarly, growth, maturity, understanding  and living into His reality is a process over time, a spiritual awakening that grows each day The spirit inside of us gently pushes us on to life, healing, restoration, goodness. Proverbs gives picture to this, "The path of the righteous is like the dawn, shining brighter and brighter until the full day."

Jesus said, "If you abide in me, you will bear much fruit." It is a consequence of knowing, living in Him, not in our flesh, our works or best efforts.

Hudson Taylor, the powerful missionary to China struggled with his own failures, his burdens, his own personal guilt as all of us do. Yet, he discovered the secret of Christ through Him--living by faith in the one who promised to provide, to comfort, to give peace and it transformed his life.

Though his arena and work load grew bigger his whole life, it was said that each day, he was a man who walked peacefully because he allowed God to carry him through his days--his burdens, his cares, his sins, his flaws--left them in the hands of God.

As we all begin a new year, we can make 2015 the best year of our lives, but it must start with knowing Him so well that we can trust Him.

What does it mean to know our God?

1. First, we must come to know the truth about Him.

He said He would never leave or forsake us. He said He would be our peace. He said nothing could separate us from His love. He said He would discipline us like children so that we could share in His holiness. He is the provider, protector, comforter. The only way we can know Him is to seek Him, study the ways of Christ, listen to the stories of His faithfulness, learn His attributes in scripture. Knowing His intimate ways in our lives is the way we grow in the reality of walking with Him. It is not working or being perfect or deserving or striving--it is resting in Him and trusting in His work in our lives.

2. We cannot move forward until we have put our past to rest.

"Behold I will do something new, will you not be aware of it?" Isaiah 43:19

Talking with some friends this week, I have realized again, that often our scars, fears, hurts, failures can be so loud in our lives, that we try to justify ourselves, but always come up short. Perhaps you have been abused by your parents or relatives, friends or husband--either actively through anger or passively by being ignored. Maybe you have had some grand failures (we will all keep failing till we get to heaven.)

But we need to put these issues to rest once and for all and let God take them for us. There is a process of grieving our losses--God acknowledges our suffering--he cried when his friend Lazarus died. He despised the shame he felt at the cross. He understands our issues.

But then, we must move on to the hope that is in Him, and the hope of all things being made new--including us. He defines us by our new heritage, our new identification, and so we must move beyond the past and live into the future of His generous provision and love.

3. Dealing with the issues that drain you inside today are necessary to moving forward in His strength.

As seasoned travelers, when we go on a mission trip to Europe or China, we pack one small carry on piece of luggage and wear live out of it for three weeks at a time. Why? Because we do not like to carry extra weight--it is a hassle. The lighter we pack the easier the trip.

What unnecessary baggage are you carrying every day that weighs you down?Look into your heart--any lack of forgiveness there? Any fear? Guilt? Inadequacy? voices of condemnation? He wants you to be free of your baggage, but you must give it to Him, get rid of it, one piece at a time,  in order to find freedom and ease for every day.

4. Move into the ministry mode

The second half of the Daniel verse days, "Those who know their God, will take action."

"For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10

"Mom, it seems like the more your ministry has grown over the years, the more people you have to love and who love you back."

God created us to have relevant lives--lives of giving, helping, serving. He knows that we bloom when we are giving and growing into the skills He gave us to use in life.

You, as you are, were created to be an important part of God's mega-story. He has a role for you to play in the grand scheme of his kingdom work in this world.

There are people in your life that you are called to love, to serve, to instruct, to show compassion to, to give to--only you can fill that role. And He has designed that if you fulfill your stewardship of His call on your life, you will find ultimate satisfaction and contentment. He made you with your personality, gifts, drives because only you can fulfill your part in His kingdom work. The more you are yourself and live into the puzzle of your life, the more meaningful your days will be.

Assessing our lives from God's point of view, seeing our lives through the grid of faith and His calling, will give us energy for our days.

How can you live into God's plans for your life? How will you invest your time for eternity instead of for this world? How will you love well, give generously, live with radical faith in 2015?

This is the year to Own Your Life, because it is not just possible to live a full, flourishing life, God designed you to live this way.

I would love to know, how do you plan to Own Your Life in 2015?

Having a Mindset that says, "I will redeem this moment!"

snowy night I will redeemAt least 5 times in the past two weeks, we have had to cancel plans for gathering with friends, or celebrating a tradition or going on an adventure due to lots of snow, or to illness. As a mama, I often want to please everyone, but disappointments are a way of life during some seasons. Joy is only home for a short while and she will be leaving in a couple of days. All of us were looking forward to a really fun planned family time tonight. We had about 6 inches of snow in Monument, it is 8 degrees, in just a few hours, on top of the old ice and snow, and the highways have accidents, and so we had to cancel our plans--AGAIN!

I  have been reading a couple of great books that have encouraged me to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit as a way of life, moment by moment, living in His provision whatever life brings. One of the glories of a woman is to be able to light a candle in the darkness so to speak, to bring light and beauty, to redeem moments by creating beauty, an atmosphere of contentment and life to those in our sphere.

Tonight, our home was covered all about in snow.

After clearing all the Christmas stuff out, I lit about 10 candles throughout the living room, lit the fireplace, turned on my Pandora to instrumental music, and told everyone that we would have a lovely snack meal cozied up in the living room where we could watch the snow.

We donned our coats  and took a moonlight walk in the snow. (I was roasting almonds in the oven with sea salt and tossed in melted butter--yumm! The best.

IMG_4960We stood outside and took pictures of the snowy beauty, on our front porch, and the Christmas lights at our neighbors.

and then went inside to read an amazing book on snowflakes. I cajoled Sarah, Joy and Joel to all sit by me on the couch to look at the amazing photography, just like times of old. The beauty and science behind it was amazing. And we all cozzied and loved looking at the amazing designs that cannot be explained or duplicated by men.

Then a snack meal, a rousing game of Golf, (a card game), with Clay and me and all the rest, and ending the night with warm caramel sticky toffee pudding and whip cream--another not to miss desert!

Now, I do think, we will have great memories from a the 5th night of changed plans, but this night was definitely a night to remember, and all of us enjoyed it after all.

We "own our evening"! :)

How have you redeemed your disappointments this month?
